"Logistics Tech Expo 2024" opens in Hong Kong on June 12

Organized by the Transport and Logistics Bureau (TLB) of the Hong Kong SAR Government, with the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) as the Implementing Partner, the Logistics Tech Expo 2024 (LTE Expo 2024) was officially opened on June 12, 2012 at the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC). The two-day event was held at the Productivity Building, bringing together over 300 Hong Kong business leaders, SME representatives, industry partners and logistics technology providers to share the latest industry technology trends and discuss how to make the best use of the HKSAR Government's funding support to upgrade and transform the logistics industry towards smart and green logistics, and to enhance efficiency and productivity.

Ms. Mabel Chan, Permanent Secretary for Transport and Logistics of the HKSAR Government, said in her opening speech that in the face of the global digitalization wave, the rise of e-commerce and the development of environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG), Hong Kong's logistics industry has to keep abreast of the times and proactively move towards smart logistics through technological innovation in order to stand out from the fierce competition. For this reason, the Hong Kong SAR Government announced last year in the "Modern Logistics Development Action Agenda" will be intelligent and green and sustainable as one of the two major directions for the development of Hong Kong's logistics industry, and has formulated a series of measures to support the industry to upgrade and transform, to grasp the new trend of intelligent and green logistics.

As the development of smart logistics is accelerating, Mr. Kenneth Bee, Chief Executive Officer of the Productivity Council (HKPC), said that Hong Kong, as a key logistics hub in Asia, needs to strengthen its strengths to cope with the restructuring of the global supply chain and regional competition. Since the implementation of the Pilot Scheme for Third Party Logistics Service Providers (3PLSP) in 2020, the Productivity Council has funded 244 projects with a total funding of about HK$146 million. Since February this year, the funding ceiling for each company has been raised to HK$2 million and expanded to include ESG technology solutions. In addition, the Productivity Council has been appointed to implement the Logistics Promotion Funding Scheme and the Smart and Green Logistics Professional Training Programme to support the promotion of projects and related training courses in Hong Kong to promote the sustainable development of the industry. 

This year's Expo aims to help Hong Kong's logistics SMEs keep abreast of the latest technological trends in the industry, support the logistics industry in nurturing more professionals for upgrading and restructuring, and encourage the industry to make good use of the HKSAR Government's funding support to move towards the development of smart and green logistics. The Expo featured more than 30 booths and seminars, showcasing a number of logistics technologies developed by Hong Kong's technology enterprises, including the Internet of Things (IoT), RFID technology applications and technological network infrastructure, intelligent warehouse automation technology and intelligent supply chain management technology, etc., as well as the introduction of smart and green logistics training courses. The Secretariat of the Pilot Scheme for Third Party Logistics Service Providers (3PLSP) also provided advice to the participating SMEs and industry players on how to apply for HKSAR Government funding. Attendees also participated in themed tours and interactive sessions to get the latest information on how to upgrade and transform the industry towards smart and green logistics.

Logistics Tech Expo 2024 features more than 30 booths and seminars showcasing a number of logistics technologies developed by Hong Kong-based technology enterprises, including Internet of Things (IoT), RFID technology applications and technology network infrastructure, intelligent warehouse automation technology and intelligent supply chain management technology, etc., as well as introducing smart and green logistics training courses. 

At the Industry Foresight Forum, a number of leaders and experts from industry chambers, including Mr. Lam Hsuan Mo, Chairman of the Hong Kong Shippers' Council, Mr. Wong Conscience, Chairman of the Federation of Hong Kong Industries Sub-group 21 (Transport and Logistics Association), Mr. Koo Pok Shing, Honorary Secretary of the Hong Kong Association of Freight Forwarding and Logistics, Engineer Yuen Mei-yee, President of the Logistics Association of Hong Kong, and Ms. Cheung Suk-ming, President of the Hong Kong E-Commerce and Logistics Association, spoke on the theme of "They shared their insights on how Hong Kong's logistics industry can develop new quality productivity to promote the development of high-end, high value-added logistics services, and discussed the challenges faced by Hong Kong's logistics industry in the face of the global economic slowdown and fluctuations in the external trade environment from various angles. They discussed the challenges and opportunities encountered by the Hong Kong logistics industry in the face of the global economic slowdown and fluctuations in the external trade environment from various perspectives, including how the development of "intermodal transportation" can promote Hong Kong's key role in the logistics chain of the Greater Bay Area, opportunities for cross-border e-commerce, as well as how the industry can provide high-quality, high-value-added and intelligent logistics services through the use of logistics technology to reduce costs, and how to synchronize the development of ESG to promote sustainable logistics services and build up competitive advantages. The conference was organized by Mr. Frankie Yee, Member of the Legislative Council, to discuss the key role of logistics technology in cross-border e-commerce.

The Productivity Council will continue to work closely with the industry to ensure that the industry makes full use of the various programs to enhance its competitiveness, and ultimately achieve the goal of making Hong Kong Asia's leading modern and intelligent logistics hub.
