The HKSAR Government announced the "Action Agenda for the Development of Modern Logistics" on the 31st, proposing a total of 24 specific action measures in eight areas, such as promoting digitization of the industry, developing logistics data connectivity, and continuously increasing the amount of land available for logistics use, in order to meet the short-, medium-, and long-term development needs of the logistics industry, and to promote the sustainable and high-quality development of the logistics industry in Hong Kong.
In respect of increasing the supply of logistics sites, it is mentioned in the platform that the short to medium term strategy is to identify logistics sites with development potential in the vicinity of the container terminals in Kwai Tsing District and conduct feasibility studies. It is planned that a total of four logistics sites of about 19 hectares of land will be made available on a regular basis during the period between 2024 and 2027, so as to allow the industry to build multi-storey logistics facilities in an innovative manner to enhance operational efficiency.
The long-term strategy is to create a logistics circle in the New Development Areas (NDAs) in the northern metro area, with a logistics site of about 37 hectares in the Hung Shui Kiu/Ha Tsuen NDA as a pilot project in the first phase to build a modern logistics circle.
It is also mentioned in the agenda that the pilot scheme on funding support for third party logistics service providers will be optimized and made permanent within this year; the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge will be utilized to improve inter-modal transport measures and further explore logistics development opportunities between Hong Kong and cities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area; and Hong Kong's industry will be encouraged to collaborate with other cities in the Greater Bay Area in formulating guidelines and standards on logistics service management for high-value goods. Mr. Lam Sai-hung, Secretary for Transport and Logistics of the HKSAR Government, said at the press conference on the same day that the Action Plan is an important document formulated by the HKSAR Government on the development of modern logistics, which will lead the direction of the future development of Hong Kong's logistics industry. Hong Kong has always been an important logistics hub within the Asian region, the SAR Government's goal is to promote Hong Kong's logistics industry in the direction of intelligence, modernization, green and sustainable, internationalization and facilitation of high-quality development, to build Hong Kong into a high-value goods and e-commerce market-oriented sustainable international intelligent logistics hub, to seize the huge opportunities brought about by the country's and the region's rapid development.
